Show of hands – how many of you have changed something around your house during this COVID-19 pandemic?
From honey-do lists to flat out moving, I’ve seen many friends sprucing up their space over the past few months. And it makes sense. Right now especially we need to love where we live!
I moved into my current home about three years ago, and my guest room/office space has been a mess ever since. Some of it was “done”, some of it was collecting piles of junk, and some of it was just empty. I’ve always known this room would be a catch-all for my Disney stuff, and I decided finishing it out would make a great quarantine project with just the right touch of magic!
And now I invite you to relax, pull up a chair, and be my guest as I proudly present… a room tour! (You see what I did there, right?)
One thing I love about my floor plan is that my extra bedroom has its own little hallway area, which means you can only just see a few magical touches from other parts of the house. This Princess 10k shadow box was a project after my first runDisney race, and is hanging in the doorway when you walk into the room.
Across from the door I dedicated wall space to my ear collection. The Walt Disney quote above is a vinyl piece I had made to fit the space. And don't worry, I've left room for my collection to grow!
The entire bed area was done during quarantine and has a few special Disney touches, like hidden Minnie Mouse icons on the gold polka dot sheets. There are race medals all over the room, but my 2018 Princess weekend medals are featured over the bed from when I ran all 3 races + finished the Fairy Tale Challenge.
Some special small shop prints sit on the wall shelf, and one of my newer treasures is framed below – a print of Belle from Beauty and the Beast painted by Paige O’Hara (who voiced Belle in the 1991 animated feature).
Finally, an entire wall was converted into a desk and display area using some old pieces of furniture I moved from my previous home – namely an antique vanity I picked up at a garage sale, and a couple of cheap bookcases! They were either going to be repurposed or tossed, but I think it comes together well in this space. The farmhouse sign is something I made myself a couple of years ago, and the shelves give me plenty of space for all of the thingamabobs I pick up online and in the parks.
I’m pretty happy with where the room is now. There are still a few tweaks and additions I can think of, but in the end it is ready for guests (will we ever get to see people again??), and I smile every time I walk in.
Do you have a favorite space in your home? I’d love to know!
